Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy admits that Watford carved the Blues open at times at Stamford Bridge and are unlucky to have gone home on the end of a 4-2 defeat.

Pedro Rodriguez set Chelsea on their way with a goal in the 12th minute, but Watford dealt the champions a big blow by scoring just before half time.

The Hornets continued their momentum in the second half as they took control of the game and needed just four minutes to pull 2-1 ahead through Roberto Pereyra.

But Chelsea were not finished and after Watford missed a string of chances, the home side rallied and drew level when Michy Batshuayi struck in the 71st minute.

Cesar Azpilicueta then put Chelsea 3-2 up in the 87th minute before a second from Batshuayi deep into stoppage time gave the scoreline a comfortable look it did not warrant.

Cundy insists Chelsea will take the win, but the former defender was alarmed by how many chances the champions allowed Watford, who he feels carved open the hosts.

"At times defensively we were a bit of a mess. They could have scored three or four in that second half", he said on Chelsea TV.

"From set pieces, where we should be organised, they had free headers, they had chances, they were carving us open.

"There was a big chance before they got their second goal which Richarlison should have scored.

"But in football you've got to take your chances.

"I'll take that and move on."
