Chris Sutton thinks Rangers fans will be asking questions of manager Pedro Caixinha after the Gers were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Motherwell, to miss out on a spot in the final of the Scottish League Cup.

Rangers started as favourites to win the semi-final tie at Hampden and were in total control in the early exchanges, but could not take their chances.

Missing opportunities came back to haunt Rangers in the second half as two goals from Louis Moult, in the 52nd and 74th minutes, put the Gers to the sword.

The game was full of controversial incidents, not least when Ryan Bowman elbowed Fabio Cardoso and broke his nose.

No action was taken, while Bruno Alves was involved in a late clash with Moult as he kicked out in retaliation.

Caixinha, along with his Motherwell counterpart Stephen Robinson, was sent to the stands during the course of the match as it ended 2-0 to Motherwell.

And Sutton questioned what Rangers fans must now be thinking.

He said on BT Sport: "You wonder what the Rangers fans are thinking.

"It hasn't been good enough under Pedro Caixinha.

"They've been well beaten today", Sutton added.

And Motherwell Under-20s boss Stephen Craigan, who was acting as co-pundit, thinks his club deserve the plaudits.

"It's a huge effort from Motherwell.

"When you speak about budgets, Rangers are miles ahead."
