Kenny Miller would have been an ideal substitute for Rangers to bring on when chasing the game against Motherwell on Sunday, former Gers striker Steven Thompson feels.

The veteran hitman, who has fallen out of favour with Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha, was not included in the matchday squad in the Gers' Scottish League Cup semi-final against Motherwell.

Miller watched on from the Hampden stands as Motherwell put Rangers out of the cup, running out 2-0 winners in a fiery encounter.

While the striker has returned to the first team squad after a spell training with the Under-20s, he is still not being picked for matchday squads by Caixinha – and Thompson thinks Miller would have been the man to turn to against Motherwell.

"With 30 minutes to go you'd have thought Kenny Miller might have been an ideal person to bring on", Thompson said on BBC Sport Scotland Facebook Live.

Miller was seen chatting with Rangers supremo Dave King at Hampden, amid further pressure being piled on Caixinha.

The Gers boss is under fire from all quarters after the cup defeat and will bid to relieve some pressure by guiding Rangers to victory over Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Wednesday night.
