Liverpool linked defender Stefan de Vrij has indicated that there are other factors that will have a bearing on whether he will sign a new contract with Lazio, including whether several star players also decide to extend their deals.

The Dutchman’s contract with Lazio expires at the end of the season and he is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms, leading to speculation that he could consider leaving the club next summer on a free transfer.

Liverpool are one of the clubs who are keeping a close watch on proceedings in the Italian capital and while there has been confidence from Lazio’s side that the defender will sign a fresh deal, nothing has been sealed yet.

And De Vrij revealed that talks are still ongoing between his representatives and the club over a new deal and admits that a lot will still depend on Lazio’s ability to hold on to other important players before he agrees to sign a fresh contract.

The Netherlands international told Calciomercato.it: “We will soon meet the club and we are still talking.
