Manchester United’s Juan Mata feels his side have a good opportunity to show that everything is still on track in their next two games despite their loss at Huddersfield Town.

Saturday’s away loss in west Yorkshire was Manchester United’s first defeat in the league this season and coupled with the 0-0 draw at Liverpool, questions are being raised about the strength of Jose Mourinho’s side.

Romelu Lukaku, who has been in prolific form since joining the club in the summer, has not scored in the last three games in all competitions and there are concerns about the team’s growing injury list ahead of Tottenham’s visit next weekend.

Mata is keen to concentrate on the Swansea game in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night and feels Manchester United must look to progress in the competition they won last season.

The Spaniard also admits that it will be pleasing to return to Old Trafford once again next weekend and the game against Tottenham will be a good opportunity for his Manchester United side to show that the team are still moving in the right direction this season.

Mata wrote on his personal blog: “This week, for instance, we have two more games. On Tuesday we’re back to the Carabao Cup.

“It’s against Swansea, a Premier League side, and we play away from home so it’s going to be a tough game but we are the reigning champions and we will try our best to win and keep moving forward.

“There’s another big game on the weekend, this time against Tottenham.

"We go back to Old Trafford after three games as visitors and it’s a very important match.

"They’re one of the most difficult teams to beat in the Premiership and also in the Champions League.

“It’s a key game for us to show again all the virtues we have been talking about over the last two months.”

Manchester United remain second in the league table but are now five points behind league leaders Manchester City.
