Barcelona fear Matthijs de Ligt and Kasper Dolberg could follow Marc Overmars from Ajax to Arsenal at the end of the season, according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo.

Overmars, who is currently the director of football at Ajax, has been linked with joining Arsenal in a similar role next summer.

Barcelona have been credited with showing interest in Ajax stars De Ligt and Dolberg, and the Catalan giants are apprehensive about Overmars taking the duo with him to north London if he does accept the Arsenal job.

The Spanish outfit are in the market for a defender and sporting director Robert Fernandez has already spoken to the player's agents to make clear the club's desire.

Barcelona could make a move for the Dutchman in January, especially if Thomas Vermaelen leaves, or could wait to snap him up at the end of the season.

It seems Barcelona will have more difficulty signing Dolberg because the striker is aware it will not be easy for him to dislodge Luis Suarez from the starting line-up.

The Denmark international, who was linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, wants to continue playing regularly.

But reportedly Barcelona are Dolberg’s first preference although the youngster wants to continue at Ajax for one more season.

It remains to be seen if Barcelona’s fears indeed come true or they manage to bring in the highly-rated pair.
