Leicester City and Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel thinks that Christian Eriksen is an example for his team-mates and not just for his ability as a footballer.

Eriksen scored a hat-trick in Denmark’s 5-1 win over Ireland last night as he helped the Danes to book their place in next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The 25-year-old creative midfielder has been one of the star players for Tottenham over the last few seasons and has also been stamping his mark on international football for Denmark.

Schmeichel, his international team-mate, feels there is very little he can say to describe the midfielder’s ability on the ball but he believes he is a huge influence on his team-mates off the pitch too.

He believes Eriksen’s conduct on and off the pitch as a star player leaves very little excuse for others in his team.

The goalkeeper told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet: “What he can do with the ball and when he is on the pitch is one thing, but what he does when he is off the pitch, such as his personality, is so much more important.

“When you see a so-called star player act like that off the pitch and work so hard on it, there is no excuse for the others.

“It says a lot about the character of the man who is carrying Danish World Cup hopes on his shoulders.”

Tottenham will be hoping Eriksen continues in this rich vein of form when they take on Arsenal in the north London derby this weekend at the Emirates Stadium.
