Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has insisted that he will remember the 7-1 hammering at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain more than his solitary goal.

Dembele scored in the first minute to give Celtic a shock lead over PSG at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, but the Parisians had too much quality for the Scottish champions at the end.

By the time the first half ended, Celtic’s goal seemed like a distant memory as a brace from Neymar and goals from Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe meant PSG went into the break with a 4-1 lead.

Cavani again got on the scoresheet with Marco Verratti and Dani Alves also getting in on the act to complete a 7-1 rout of Brendan Rodgers’ men in the French capital.

Dembele admits that for a couple of minutes it felt good to score, but conceded that the reality of taking PSG’s attacking threat finally overwhelmed the Scottish champions.

He is hopeful Celtic will learn from the mistakes, but believes once they could not continue the early pressure, PSG were always going to be too much for them because of their quality.

Dembele told beIN Sports France: “We’ll only remember the defeat.

“I scored, it was good and for two minutes it felt good, but then reality came galloping back. We lost that match. There are things to remember, to learn.

“For the first 20 minutes we were in the match, but when you let players of their quality off the hook, you will have to pay.

“We will learn from our mistakes and we knew what to expect.”

Avoiding a heavy defeat at home against Anderlecht in their last group game will be good enough to earn Celtic a berth in the Europa League.
