Pat Nevin believes Liverpool are "wrecked" following their Champions League capitulation against Sevilla in midweek, giving Chelsea a good chance of winning at Anfield despite travelling to Azerbaijan.

While Liverpool let a three-goal lead slip to draw 3-3 with Sevilla on Tuesday, Chelsea comfortably beat Qarabag 4-0 in Azerbaijan on Wednesday night to book their place in the knockout round of the Champions League.

Despite the draw at Sevilla, Liverpool are top of their Champions League group, but Jurgen Klopp’s team need at least a draw against Sparktak Moscow in their final Group E game to progress in the competition.

And Nevin, who feels Liverpool will be psychologically and mentally scarred after the result in Spain, thinks the possibility of Chelsea returning home with the full three points from Merseyside at the weekend is now huge.

“I was at that game last night with Liverpool, they're wrecked”, Nevin said on Chelsea TV.

“They just chased and chased and chased. They hardly got a touch in the second half.

“You could see they were completely exhausted at the end of it. They were mentally wrecked as well.

“They were within touching distance of it, probably within 90 seconds of being through in the Champions League. It was grabbed away from them, they've lost three goals.

“The psychological damage that has done to them is incredible. So in many ways it's been the perfect two days for Chelsea.

“Also, what was really clear is their weaknesses really showed.

“Having watched the two teams playing over the last two days, Chelsea have got a great chance.”

Chelsea have failed to win their last five Premier League outings against Liverpool, drawing three of those, but head to Anfield in good goalscoring form while the Reds' defensive issues remain unaddressed under Klopp.
