AC Milan have made recent contact with Antonio Conte's camp as they continue their efforts to take the Chelsea manager back to Italy, it has been claimed.

Conte signed a new contract with Chelsea earlier this year, but it only accepted a simple pay rise without actually extending the length of the deal, which expires in 18 months.

There have been persistent claims that the Italian has been left frustrated with Chelsea’s work in the transfer market and does not believe he has been given a squad deep enough to challenge on all fronts.

He has already made it clear that he wants to return to Italy in the future and the Chelsea manager is AC Milan’s number one pick to become their next permanent coach.

They parted ways with Vincenzo Montella earlier this week and installed Gennaro Gattuso on an interim basis and are working on Conte to take him back to Italy next summer.

And according to Sky Italia, there have been recent conversations between AC Milan and the 48-year-old's camp as the Rossoneri continue to press hard to convince him.

The AC Milan hierarchy also contacted Conte's camp last summer, but he decided to stay put at Chelsea for the season.

The former Juventus and Italy coach remains their number one target and AC Milan are continuing to work behind the scenes to get their man at the end of the season.
