Real Madrid have approached Chelsea for the signature of defender David Luiz on a loan deal in the January transfer window.

Luiz has been struggling for form this season and is currently out with a knee injury, with Antonio Conte unsure about the amount of time it will take for him to recover.

It emerged earlier this week that Real Madrid are interested in signing the defender and have been in talks with Chelsea to take Luiz to the Spanish capital in January.

And according to French magazine Le 10 Sport, the European champions have proposed signing the Brazilian on a loan deal with an option to buy him.

Zinedine Zidane is believed to be keen to add to his defensive resources in the January window and the club have identified Luiz as a possible recruit in the middle of the season.

It remains to be seen whether Conte will allow the Brazil centre half to leave Chelsea in January without guarantee of an adequate replacement from the club.

However, the possibility of the defender leaving Chelsea before the end of the season has not been ruled out despite Conte’s reluctance to further weaken his squad.

Luiz will have 12 months left on his contract with Chelsea next summer.
