Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson feels his side deserved to get the three points, following their 1-1 draw with Celtic on Wednesday night.

The Steelmen, who were beaten 2-0 by Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final last weekend, went ahead in the 78th minute at Fir Park after Mikael Lustig put the ball into his own net.

Just when it looked like Motherwell would be able to stop Celtic’s unbeaten domestic run, the Hoops were awarded a penalty two minutes from time, with Scott Sinclair duly converting it.

And Robinson, who said that he was proud of his charges’ performance against the Scottish champions, thinks Motherwell deserved to bag the full points.

“I’m ever so proud of them”, he told Motherwell’s official site.

“To produce that performance after the disappointment of Sunday it shows what great characters we have at this football club.

“With five or six minutes to go, running the champions close and, for me, deserving to get three points.”

Celtic were awarded the spot-kick when Callum McGregor fell under the challenge of Andy Rose, but Robinson refused to talk about the penalty decision.

“I’m not going to talk about [the penalty decision], what I want to do is talk about the performance of Allan Campbell, the performance of Chris Cadden and Trevor Carson – boys who give their everything”, he continued.

Celtic, whose unbeaten domestic run now stands at 66 games, will once again lock horns with Motherwell on Saturday, this time at Paradise.
