The father of Liverpool linked youngster Perr Schuurs has insisted that his son’s suitors will continue to monitor his progress even though he has agreed a move to Ajax.

Ajax have snapped up the 18-year-old defender from second tier Dutch side Fortuna Sittard and have loaned him back to the club for the rest of the current season.

A highly regarded young defender, Schuurs is the skipper of the Fortuna Sittard side at the tender age of 18 and was on trial at Liverpool before agreeing to join Ajax earlier this week.

The Reds were understood to be keen to take him to England, but his father revealed that the defender was not prepared to leave the Netherlands at a nascent stage of his career.

However, he stressed that clubs who were keeping tabs on his son will continue to do so even after he joined Ajax and indicated that if he continues to develop, a bigger move could be on the cards in the near future.

Schuurs senior was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur: “Perr wanted to stay in the Netherlands, he didn’t want to go abroad.

“The clubs who followed him have indicated that they will continue to do so even after his move to Ajax.

“So if he continues to develop, the outcome could be good.”

Schuurs, who earned three caps for Netherlands Under-19s, has 40 senior appearances under his belt for Fortuna Sittard.
