Barcelona star Andreas Iniesta has insisted that he does not see Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho’s potential arrival at the Nou Camp as competition for his place in the team.

The veteran midfielder has become a legendary figure at Barcelona because of his achievements and the amount of trophies he has won since breaking into the senior squad.

Barcelona are aware of the Iniesta’s advancing years and have been working behind the scenes to identify a potential replacement, with Coutinho believed to be their top target.

The Catalan giants are expected to again try and sign the creative midfielder in the January window after their failed mission last summer and Iniesta admits that the Brazilian is the kind of player who would perfectly fit in at the club.

The Spain international stressed that he is not looking at Coutinho’s potential signing as competition for his place in the team but as someone who would improve the squad if he joins.

“He is player with a profile that suits us and would be a great signing if he finally arrives.

“I don’t see him as my competition, but as an improvement for the club.”
