Borussia Dortmund have been put off by FC Basel’s asking price for Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool defensive target Manuel Akanji.

The 22-year-old centre-back’s future has come under the scanner ahead of the January window as a number of big European clubs have been keeping tabs on the player.

The Swiss defender’s performances in Switzerland have led to interest from the Premier League duo of Tottenham and Liverpool and even Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing him.

It has been claimed that Dortmund were also on their way to slapping in a €25m bid for the young defender in the January window, but the club are now reconsidering their position.

According to German daily Bild, Basel have now slapped an asking price north of €30m for Akanji and are in no mood to offer any discounts to any of his suitors.

It is understood Basel’s financial demands, coupled with their uncompromising view has left Dortmund annoyed and the club are now rethinking their strategy for Akanji.

The Swiss club have already made it clear that they are under no pressure to sell the 22-year-old and are insisting on keeping their squad together until the summer.

Akanji made his debut for Switzerland earlier this year and has earned four international caps.
