Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfield target Max Meyer is looking for a significant improvement on Schalke’s last contract offer in order to continue at the club.

The 22-year-old midfielder’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he has attracted significant interest from top clubs with Liverpool and Tottenham believed to be keeping tabs on him.

With Leon Goretzka expected to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the end of the season, Schalke have become more desperate to see Meyer sign a new contract soon.

And even Meyer and his representatives are aware of Schalke’s need for him to stay and according to German daily Bild, the midfielder is expecting to become one of the top earners at the Arena AufSchalke.

He rejected a €5m per year contract from Schalke last year and is expecting the club to come up with a significantly improved offer before he commits to a new deal.
