Former Manchester United winger Ben Thornley has insisted that Jose Mourinho wants to be remembered as a success at Old Trafford.

Mourinho came out fighting on Thursday to dismiss reports that suggested that he could resign as Manchester United manager at the end of the season and termed it ‘garbage’ news.

Mourinho was also angry that many have been questioning his dedication and commitment towards the club and defended his decision to continue living in a hotel despite being at Manchester United for more than 18 months now.

Thornley is certain that the Manchester United manager has no plans to leave the club any time soon as he wants to be successful at Old Trafford and win the major trophies.

The former winger also feels that Mourinho will continue beyond his current three-year contract as he wants to be remembered as a successful Manchester United manager.

Thornley said on MUTV: “He wants to be a success here.

“Wherever he has been, Portugal, Italy or Spain, he has been a success and he wants that here.

“First and foremost he wants to build a team that he has put together and he wants United and himself to be winning trophies.

“He had a relatively successful season last year with the Europa League, which is a tough trophy to win, but he won’t be satisfied as long as he does not win the so called bigger things – be it the Champions League or the Premier League.

“He wants to do that and he said that there is a case for him to stay beyond the three years and why not?

“He wants to be a success and he wants to be remembered as a success at Manchester United and so I think anybody who questions his dedication towards Manchester United, he is going to answer back.”

Mourinho is expected to target the FA Cup this season and Manchester United will be in third round action tonight when they host Derby County at Old Trafford.
