Loris Karius has admitted that it will be a different experience for him to play every week from now on, with the Liverpool custodian insisting that he cannot wait to feature against Swansea City on Monday.

The German has mostly played second fiddle to Simon Mignolet since joining Liverpool from Mainz in the summer of 2016.

While Karius has been playing the Champions League games this season, Mignolet has generally been Liverpool’s first choice between the sticks in the Premier League; Karius made sporadic appearances in the league as well.

However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp decided to play Karius in place of Mignolet for the Reds’ crunch game against Manchester City at Anfield, with the hosts ultimately winning the game 4-3.

Although Karius was at fault for the Citizens’ first goal, Klopp confirmed that he is now Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper.

And the 24-year-old, who explained that he relished playing in the Champions League, is now looking forward to featuring week in and week out for Liverpool, starting against the Swans at the Liberty Stadium next week.

“That’s what I’ve been working towards since I was left out”, Karius told LFC TV, when asked if Klopp publicly stating that he is the club’s first choice goalkeeper boosted his confidence.

“I was using the Champions League to get game time and prove myself.

“That was very good for me, [I didn’t play] that many games, but they [the Champions League games] were at the highest level.

“I played a few league games now and then, but now it’s going to be different playing every week.

“I can’t wait to be in goal again next week.”

Karius has thus far made 11 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season, managing five clean sheets.
