Southampton have stepped up on their efforts to sign Monaco striker Guido Carrillo this month, but they are yet to make an initial offer.

Mauricio Pellegrino remains keen to add to his squad in the January transfer window and getting more firepower up front is believed to be one of his priorities.




And 26-year-old Argentinian striker has emerged as a key target for the Southampton and the club are looking to wrest him away from Monaco before the end of the window.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, the Saints have held more talks with the striker’s representatives over a transfer and have even touched based with Monaco.
 


Carrillo, who has made just two league starts this season, has been tempted at the opportunity of moving to the Premier League and wants to leave Monaco in this month’s transfer window.

Despite talks with the player and Monaco, Southampton are yet to slap in a bid, but it has been claimed that the club are expected to put in a good offer in the coming days.

Monaco are expected to sell the player if the price is right and the two clubs are expected to hold more talks regarding the striker’s future in the upcoming days.

Carrillo has close to two-and-a-half years left on his contract with Monaco.
