There has been no recent contact between Chelsea and Stoke City regarding Peter Crouch, it has been claimed.

Chelsea are desperate to sign a back-up striker to Alvaro Morata in this month’s transfer window and they have been probing a number of options across Europe.

They have already tabled a bid for Roma striker Edin Dzeko, who is unlikely to leave the Giallorossi and Crystal Palace have also rejected a loan bid from Chelsea for Christian Benteke.

Andy Carroll was also on their watch list until he suffered an injury and there are suggestions that Chelsea have even contacted Stoke to enquire about the possibility of signing Crouch.

However, according to Sky Sports News HQ, there has been no recent contact between the two clubs for Crouch, but Chelsea have shown an interest in him previously.

The Premier League champions got in touch with Stoke in September to enquire about signing Crouch, but the Potters were not interested in selling the veteran striker.

But since then there has been no further formal talks between the two clubs and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea indeed make a splash for the striker this month.
