Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders feels the Reds did enough in the second half to win their game against Swansea City on Monday evening.

Despite being firm favourites in the contest at the Liberty Stadium, the Reds slumped to a 1-0 loss against the Premier League’s bottom team.

Alfie Mawson scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute as Liverpool failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Jurgen Klopp’s team desperately tried to turn the scoreline around after the break, but despite coming close on several occasions, the Reds failed to find the back of the net, with Roberto Firmino hitting the post in injury time.

And Saunders, who admitted it was a frustrating game for Liverpool, however thinks the Merseyside giants could have won the match, following their display in the second half.

“It was a frustrating night for Liverpool, Swansea had a game plan”, he said on LFC TV.

“They played 5-4-1 and scored a goal from a set-piece which we thought was their best chance of scoring.

“And that gave them something to hang onto, and they did hang on.

“Liverpool created four or five good chances.

“Probably we didn’t do enough in the first half, but we did enough in the second half to win.

“And the chance in the end – it just summed the night up.”

The defeat against Swansea put an end to Liverpool’s 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
