Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is still pushing to sign a striker this month, it has been claimed.

The Magpies, who are currently 15th in the Premier League table with 23 points from 24 games, have managed to score just 22 league goals this season, the fifth-lowest in the division.

Newcastle have managed to score just three goals in their last five Premier League outings and need to add some firepower up front to steer clear of the relegation battle; they presently find themselves just one point clear of the drop zone.

And according to the Chronicle, Benitez is still looking to add a striker to his squad in the ongoing transfer window.

It is believed that owner Mike Ashley has approved the Spaniard’s plan for the remainder of the season and he left it to his board to bring in Benitez’s targets in the winter window.
