Celtic linked Jack Rodwell has gone on trial at Dutch outfit Vitesse as Sunderland look to offload him, according to Sky Sports News HQ.

The Black Cats have been looking to agree a contract termination with Rodwell, who is on £70,000 per week at the Stadium of Light, but have been facing the prospect of agreeing to hand the midfielder a payoff to leave.

Brendan Rodgers' Celtic have been claimed to be keeping tabs on Rodwell, but the former Everton man has headed to the Netherlands.

He is on trial at Vitesse and will be looking to make an impression at the Dutch top flight club.

It is unclear on what basis Vitesse might look to sign Rodwell if he does impress on trial and they want to keep him at the club.
