PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands has emerged as a potential target for Everton, it has been claimed.

Everton appointed Steve Walsh as head of recruitment and director of football in 2016, but the Englishman has been more active on the scouting front than policy making in his role as the technical director.

Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri wants a continental style director of football at Everton and is looking for candidates with a wide network in Europe, which could help them to sign players.

Everton’s recruitment last summer came under fire and the Everton hierarchy are looking to mend their ways in order to become more prudent in the transfer market.

And according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, the club are looking at Brands as one of the candidates who could become the new director of football at Goodison Park.

Brands has a reputation for being a student of the game and has earned praise for the work he has done as PSV sporting director under budgetary constraints.

Everton are not the only club looking at his work in the Netherlands as Chelsea are also considering taking him to England to replace Michael Emenalo, who joined Monaco recently.

Brands has a contract until 2020 with PSV, but Everton are prepared to pay a compensation if they zero in on him as their new director of football.
