Chelsea resumed negotiations with Arsenal last night for Olivier Giroud and they have already agreed a contract with the player, who wants the move.

Giroud declined an opportunity to join Borussia Dortmund this month as he and his family want to continue to live in London and a move to Chelsea is a possibility.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Chelsea took their €20m bid off Arsenal’s table yesterday morning even though the north London accepted the offer, as the Blues believed they took too long to respond.

But Chelsea’s striker search has not been moving smoothly on other fronts and it has been claimed that they resumed talks with the Gunners for the Frenchman last night.

Chelsea have also agreed personal terms with the player and despite interest from other clubs, Giroud has prioritised moving to Stamford Bridge in the last 48 hours of the window.

The Blues are aware of the delicate situation they have found themselves in and have been in continuous touch with the striker’s representatives to make sure a deal is done before tomorrow’s deadline.

Arsenal are still trying to secure Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who Dortmund won’t allow to leave, despite an agreement, if they can’t sign a replacement.

Giroud will also be held back by the Gunners if they fail to take the Aubameyang deal over the line.
