Everton have opened talks with Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala as they look to secure him on a loan deal on deadline day.

Following the big money arrival of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao, Mangala has become surplus to requirements at the Etihad and the club are trying to move him on today.

At the start of the day it emerged Everton are confident of signing the Frenchman for Manchester City and have been in negotiations with the Premier League leaders.

And it seems the talks have moved ahead with pace as according to the BBC, the club are now looking to convince the player to move to Merseyside on loan until the end of the season.

It is understood that the Toffees are in conversation with Mangala and his representatives and are looking to agree personal terms with the defender ahead of a proposed switch.
