Andy Lonergan's proposed move from Leeds United to Sunderland on deadline day is off.

The goalkeeper, who is number 2 behind Felix Wiedwald at Elland Road, was expected to complete a move to the Stadium of Light, with Leeds having given the switch the green light.

But the move is now off, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

It is claimed that Sunderland have not been able to agree personal terms with Lonergan and as a result he is on his way back to Leeds.

The Whites had been expected to promote a young goalkeeper to the back-up role for the rest of the campaign if Lonergan left.

But the experienced custodian is now staying at Elland Road and Sunderland have instead been linked with Leicester City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic.

Lonergan only joined Leeds last summer and did initially claim the starting spot between the sticks earlier this season, before being dislodged by Wiedwald.
