Graeme Murty has revealed that he wants to instill the ruthlessness of Pep Guardiola’s sides into his Rangers team going forward.

Wins over Partick Thistle and Ayr United in their last two games have made sure that Rangers are going into this weekend’s away clash at Hamilton in a much more confident mood.

Despite being eleven points behind league leaders Celtic in third, Murty has received praise for some of the work he has done since taking charge of the club in October last year.

The Rangers manager is looking to build a winning team at Ibrox going forward and admits that he is trying to learn from some of the great coaches in work in the Premier League at the moment.

And he admits that Guardiola’s footballing philosophy is something he would like to adopt at Rangers.

He is not just interested in the eye catching football that Guardiola’s sides play, but he is a fan of their spirit and ruthlessness, which is required to win games.

Murty told Rangers TV: “I look down south at Jurgen Klopp to a Liverpool fan [sic], I look at [Jose] Mourinho because he’s been the benchmark and you look at Pep [Guardiola].

“Pep has a fantastic philosophy on football, but there is a steely-eyed professionalism behind everything he does.

“He’s a winner, his teams are desperate to win, and for all of their pretty play and all of their nice play, that it is backed up by that determination to go and win and put people to the sword when they are on top.”

He added: “They’ve been ruthless this year.

“I would like us to be ruthless also and if we can add that to our game I think it’s a necessary characteristic of a winning team.”
