Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has revealed he would be very surprised if Samu Saiz does not start against Brentford on Saturday.

Whites head coach Paul Heckingbottom did not include Saiz, who was available for selection after serving a six-match ban, in his starting line-up against Derby County on Wednesday evening.

The Spaniard gave a good account of himself after coming on as a 55th minute substitute in the 2-2 draw at Pride Park.

And Gray, who feels Saiz’s inclusion lifts the Leeds team and strikes fear into opponents, thinks the 27-year-old should start against Brentford without a shadow of doubt.

“I think the thing about him is that he lifts the players around him because they are expecting him to make things [happen]”, Gray told LUTV.

“He gives everybody a lift and I don’t think there’s any doubt that he will start on Saturday.

“I would be very surprised if he didn’t because he gives us something different.

“He gives us that spark and he puts fear into them [the opponents].

“He brings a different dimension to our play.”

Saiz, who joined Leeds from SD Huesca last summer, has thus far scored nine goals and set up five more in 26 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire giants.

He was banned for six games after spitting at a Newport County player in an FA Cup game last month.
