Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is confident that his side will have their opportunities to win the Champions League this season.

Pep Guardiola won his first trophy in England on Sunday when Manchester City swatted aide Arsenal 3-0 in the EFL Cup final and the club are hungry for more accolades this season.

Not many are expecting Manchester City to slip up in the title race after building 13-point gap at the top of the Premier League table and they are also being backed to do well in the Champions League.

The Premier League leaders thrashed FC Basel away from home in the first leg of their last 16 tie and Aguero is confident that they can achieve European success this season if they continue in the same vein of form.

He admits that the big wigs of European football are always the favourites to win the Champions League, but he also pointed out that Manchester City have invested a lot of money to make sure they join the elite as well.

“The big teams are always the Champions League favourites, but we are very good too”, Aguero told Spanish radio station Cadena SER.

“If we continue in this form, we will have our chances.

“The club have invested a lot of money in order to succeed in the Champions League and hopefully this will be our year.”

Manchester City will look to restore a 16-point lead at the top of the Premier League table when they again play Arsenal on Thursday night.
