Former Bundesliga coach Hans Meyer has little doubt that Jurgen Klopp should be in the running to succeed Joachim Low as Germany coach when the position opens up.

Despite being locked down on a long term contract at Liverpool, Klopp has recently been linked with taking over at Bayern Munich, who are looking for a new coach following the confirmation that Jupp Heynckes will leave in the summer.

However, Klopp has shown little sign that he is preparing to leave Liverpool and when he is ready to return to Germany then other jobs may be in the offing.

And Meyer is sure if the Germany job is available then Klopp would be a good fit.

"I was asked whether Klopp would be the logical candidate to take over from Joachim Low as the national team coach", Meyer wrote in his Sportbuzzer column.

"Of course Jurgen could, whenever, fill the big and difficult job of national coach!

"But do we really want, about three and a half months from the World Cup in Russia, to finally open the much needed discussion about Joachim's successor?"

Klopp's stock in German football remains high and will surge higher further if he can lead Liverpool to success in the Champions League this season.

Liverpool appear to have one foot in the semi-finals after taking a 3-0 lead over Manchester City in their quarter-final tie.
