Italian agent Diego Tavano believes Roma now could get an opportunity to avenge their European Cup final defeat to Liverpool more than three decades ago in this season’s Champions League.

Liverpool defeated Manchester City with a 5-1 aggregate scoreline to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night, but the real shock of the quarter-finals was pulled off by Roma.

The Serie A giants came into the home leg of their quarter-final tie against a Barcelona on the back of a 4-1 defeat at the Nou Camp, but a shock 3-0 win ensures they are in the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 1984.

It was the same year when they lost the final to Liverpool, who lifted their fourth European Cup, on penalties at the Stadio Olimpico in front of their adoring supporters.

That defeat still rankles Roma and their fans and Tavano feels this could be the year where the Giallorossi finally get their chance to avenge that defeat against Liverpool.
