Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has indicated that he is still ready to talk about a new contract for Liverpool and Arsenal target Max Meyer if the player wants to reopen the conversations.

The midfielder’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and he has already rejected two offers of a new contract, leading to Schalke accept that he is likely to walk through the door for free in the summer.

Heidel has more or less given up hope of keeping Meyer at Schalke and has ruled out reopening talks with his agent, Roger Wittmann, with whom the deal-maker has had a fall out over the negotiations regarding the midfielder’s new deal.

However, the Schalke sporting director stressed that he is prepared to sit down for talks with Meyer if he wants another conversation over his future at the club.

He indicated that club are still ready to negotiate a new deal for Meyer if the player is prepared for talks this close to the end of his current contract.

Heidel told T-Online: “Max and his agent are planning his future and I am planning Schalke’s future with the coach.

“I would always talk to Max if he comes to me, but would it push open the conversation over his contract extension?

“I’ll just leave the question open.”

Club such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, AC Milan, Juventus and Roma are considering signing Meyer on a free transfer in the summer.
