Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts believes that Anthony Martial should leave Manchester United as playing under Jose Mourinho has hurt his development.

The 22-year-old has been linked with leaving the Red Devils, despite scoring eleven goals in 40 overall matches thus far and has also set up ten more goals for his team-mates.

However, since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window, Martial's chances have become limited, with the Frenchman playing for the full 90 minutes in just three of his last ten league outings.

The French international was in fact left to warm the bench in Manchester United's last two league games against Swansea City and Manchester City, both of which they won.

As a result Martial is increasingly being linked with a move away from the club in the summer with Serie A champions Juventus keeping an eye on the situation.

Roberts, who played for Tottenham from 1980 to 1986, insists that it is not unnatural for Martial to look for a move away because the Portuguese manager has been holding him back, hindering his progress.

"To be honest I do not blame Anthony Martial [for] wanting to leave United", Roberts wrote on his official Twitter account.

"I feel Jose has really held him back and [he] would be a lot better at a club who let him play [the] way he can express himself.

"[He is] a very good player."
