Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes the Whites should be delighted with their efforts if they get a point at Aston Villa tonight.

The Yorkshire giants are closing in on another disappointing end to a campaign that started with much hope and expectations of promotion, and have won just two out of their last 19 games.

Steve Bruce’s side are at the other end of the spectrum, are just five points behind the automatic promotion places and are hoping to jump up to second place in the coming weeks.

Ahead of tonight’s trip to Villa Park, Leeds are also dealing with an injury crisis with a number of players sidelined and Gray has indicated under such circumstances a win away from home seems improbable.

Given the state of the squad, the Leeds legend feels Paul Heckingbottom’s side should be happy even if they escape Villa Park with a point in their bag.

The Leeds legend said on LUTV: “Looking at it now, I think if somebody says to you that you are going to come away from Villa Park with a point, you would have to snap their hands off.

“Given the situation with the injuries and suspensions and when you actually think about the team now, there are three or four players who could be captain, that are not going to be playing.

“If we come away with an away result, we would be delighted.”

Leeds did earn a point from a 1-1 draw against Villa at Elland Road in December.
