Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has termed Barcelona boring and feels the Reds play more entertaining football than the Catalan giants.

Grobbelaar is back in focus this week after Liverpool were drawn to face Roma in the semi-finals of the Champions League as the former goalkeeper saved the crucial penalties from Bruno Conti and Francesco Graziani in the 1984 final to win the trophy for the Reds at the Stadio Olimpico.

The former Liverpool custodian is happy that Roma knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League as he believes the Catalan giants play boring football and lack the entertainment factor.

Grobbelaar feels his former Liverpool side and even the current team manager by Jurgen Klopp play the more exciting football and hailed the English origins of the game.

“I didn’t see the first leg, but how boring Barcelona are”, the former Red told Italian daily La Repubblica when asked about Roma knocking out Barcelona.

"Football is about speed, running, crossing and shooting and not endless dribbles, even if the Spaniards have changed the way they play their football now.”

He added: “Football is what the old Liverpool were and even today’s Liverpool are – a show.

“Football is an English business, [it is] not for nothing they invented it.”

During his 13-year stint with Liverpool, Grobbelaar won six league titles, three FA Cups and the European Cup amongst various other honours.
