Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has insisted that he was not at all happy with his team's first half performance against Southampton, in their 3-2 win, but the way the team showed character and a desire to win impressed him.

The Saints, in desperate search of points, went 2-0 up by the 60th minute and looked well set to earn all three points to pick themselves up from the relegation zone.

Southampton's joy was short lived though as the Pensioners found the back of the net three times in the space of eight minutes to win the match 3-2 in the end.

Giving his reaction post the match, the manager said that the way his team played in the first half, showing a lack of desire, made him angry.

But football is a game of two halves, the Italian concedes, and the way his team responded, showing character to win, was significant.

"For sure in every moment of the game you must think positive and that you can come back despite the score being 2-0 down", Conte was quoted as saying by his club's official website.

"I must be honest and I was very angry with our first half because we did not show great desire, great will to fight and will to play in the right way.

"After the first half I was very disappointed but I am the coach and if the desire is not right and we cannot fight in the right way, I am the first person to take responsibility.

"In the second half we showed great character and reaction and desire to win the game.

"We showed the right fire in our eyes and I am pleased with the second half. It is not important to win, lose or draw, what is important is to show great intensity and will to fight to the end."
