Chelsea are breathing a sigh of relief after it was confirmed that striker Michy Batshuayi has not broken his leg or ankle.

Batshuayi is currently on loan at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and was stretchered off in a 2-0 defeat to Schalke on Sunday.

There were fears that the Belgian hitman had broken his leg or his ankle and he was pictured on crutches.

But according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, Batshuayi has not broken his leg or his ankle and instead ligament damage is suspected.

It had also been suggested that the injury means Batshuayi's loan at Dortmund is over and he is heading back to Chelsea for treatment.

But no decision has been taken as Dortmund look to fully assess the extent of the damage.

Batshuayi will be hoping that the injury is not too serious as he looks to head to the World Cup as part of the Belgium squad this summer.

The striker has been in fine form for Dortmund since joining on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window; he failed to break into the side on a regular basis at Stamford Bridge.
