Barcelona’s interest in Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet is not linked to Manchester United defensive target Samuel Umtiti’s future at the Nou Camp, it has been claimed.

Umtiti and Barcelona have been in talks over a new deal for the player as the Catalan giants look to sign him on fresh terms and increase the current release clause of €60m.

However, the negotiations have not been smooth until now as Manchester United are interested in signing the defender and are prepared to offer him a contract worth €9m per season.

Umtiti’s representatives are demanding Barcelona match the offer from England, but for the moment the Catalan giants have refused to break their wage structure for the former Lyon defender.

The Catalan giants are also interested in signing Sevilla’s Lenglet and there are suggestions that they want him to replace Umtiti in the team should he decide to leave.

However, according to Catalan daily Sport, the move for Lenglet has got nothing to do with the speculation over Umtiti’s future and the club are still confident of convincing him to sign a new deal.

The Catalan giants want Lenglet as part of Ernesto Valverde’s plans to overhaul his defence and he wants the Frenchman as a long term partner for Umtiti at Barcelona.
