Toby Alderweireld has hailed his return to the team for Tottenham Hotspur, despite not getting the result the side wanted against Brighton.

Spurs went 1-0 ahead at the Amex Stadium when Harry Kane struck three minutes into the second half, but the visitors could not hold their lead.

It took just 143 seconds for the Seagulls to strike back through Pascal Gross. The Brighton star scored from the penalty spot after Serge Aurier was judged to have fouled Jose Izquierdo.

Spurs were lacklustre on the south coast as Brighton claimed a vital draw to move one step closer to securing their Premier League status for a further season.

Alderweireld was back in the team following being regularly overlooked by boss Mauricio Pochettino and he was quick to express his delight at the game time.

"Happy to enter the pitch, thanks for all the support."

Alderweireld, who has not yet signed a new contract with Tottenham, has been tipped to leave in the summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
