Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has urged his team to show fight as they try to reel in fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur to make next year's Champions League.

The Blues sit in fifth spot in the Premier League, eight points behind fourth placed Tottenham, though have played a game fewer than the north London club.

Chelsea's game in hand comes on Thursday night away at seventh placed Burnley and winning would cut the gap to Tottenham to just five points with four games left for each team to play.

Many have already written Chelsea off, but Conte will not wave the white flag yet and wants his men to fight to catch Tottenham.

"We have to try until the end to reach this target", Conte said at a press conference.

"If we want to be realistic, then with five games to go it’s not simple to reduce the gap. But we must have the will to fight until the end and the desire to reach this target.

"Tomorrow we play a really strong team in Burnley, a team having a fantastic season and it won’t be easy to get the three points. But we have to try to win this game."

Chelsea went 2-0 down against Southampton at the weekend before staging a remarkable comeback to win 3-2 at St. Mary's Stadium, but Conte is fully aware his men will not always be able to get out of jail.

"We can’t allow for a start like what happened against Southampton, we have to try to avoid this if we want to keep the hope of finishing in the top four", the Italian stressed.

Tottenham dropped points by drawing 1-1 at Brighton on Tuesday night.
