Former Rangers and Burnley midfielder Joey Barton has agreed to take over at Fleetwood Town from 2nd June.

Barton has made the leap into management by signing a three-year deal with the League One club and he will take the reins of the Cod Army in the summer.

The midfielder, whose last two playing spells of his career came at Rangers and Burnley, respectively, feels Fleetwood are the right club at which to launch his managerial career and revealed he already enjoys a good relationship with chairman Andrew Pilley.

Reacting to being handed the head coach's job, Barton told Fleetwood's official site: "I’m very excited by the challenge and the project at Fleetwood Town.

"It’s a club I’ve known for a long time, and a chairman I already have a very good relationship with", Barton continued.
