Former Manchester United midfielder Sammy McIlroy has conceded that he has been left baffled by Jose Mourinho’s complaints about the attitude of his players.

Manchester United scored a comfortable 2-0 win away at Bournemouth on Wednesday night and consolidated their position in second behind champions-elect Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Mourinho was not happy about the performance and the attitude shown by his Manchester United players in their home defeat to bottom placed West Brom at the weekend.

And the Manchester United manager also insisted that the consistency and attitude of his players has been a problem this season, which has led to them dropping points against teams such as Newcastle United, Huddersfield Town and West Brom.

McIlroy admits that he finds it baffling that players representing Manchester United would not show the required amount of drive and attitude in games, despite the level of opposition.

“I am baffled, why attitude [is the problem]”, the former Red said on MUTV’s Matchday Review programme.

“You are playing for Manchester United, no matter whoever you are playing against.

“Certain players might think this is easy against West Brom, bottom of the league, but for your own performance you should be up for the game.

“This attitude thing baffles me a bit.”

Mourinho will expected his players to be up for their FA Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday.
