Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom has conceded that there is always a chance Pablo Hernandez could get his head turn as he nears the end of his contract at Elland Road.

The Spaniard is out of contract in the summer and Leeds have been in talks with the player and his representatives over a new deal as they look to secure his future at the club.

Heckingbottom has been in conversation with Hernandez to convince him to sign a new deal with Leeds and has been certain that the player will take a number of factors into consideration before committing to a new contract.

The Leeds boss feels money won’t be motivating factor in the veteran winger’s decision, but admits there’s always a chance his entourage could turn his head with other offers on the table.

Asked about Hernandez’s contract situation, Heckingbottom said in a press conference: “I have had chats with Pablo and everything is positive.

“Pablo is driven by football rather than money.

"His family are settled here and it's positive.

“But there could be people that turn his head because of his contract situation and that's where we stand.”

Leeds are desperate not to lose Hernandez’s experience from the dressing room ahead of another summer of churn at the club.
