Manchester United legend Gary Neville has insisted that Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side were the best team he played against as a Red Devil.

Arsenal announced on Friday morning that Wenger will be departing the club at the end of the season after 22 years in charge of the Gunners, a year earlier than his current contract states.

The Frenchman has been credited for revolutionising English football since he landed at Arsenal in 1996 and his rivalry with Sir Alex Ferguson and his Manchester United side was legendary.

Arsenal and Manchester United side dominated English football between 1996 and 2004 and Neville admits that those sides managed by Wenger were the best teams he played against.

He lauded the Frenchman for his double wining Arsenal side of 1998 and believes the Arsenal fans should give him one of the best send-offs in the remaining games of the season.

Neville wrote on Twitter: “Arsene Wenger built the best teams that I played against in English Football. The 98 team was amazing.

“The biggest compliment is that he played football that made us change the way we played against them.

“He now deserves the most incredible send off from all in the coming weeks.”

Wenger will manage his last game at the Emirates against Burnley in the penultimate weekend and his last game as Arsenal manager will be at Leicester City.
