Barnsley custodian Adam Davies insists that he cannot thank his former boss and current Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom enough for helping his growth, though he would love to get one over on the 40-year-old on Saturday.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper worked under Heckingbottom at Oakwell between 2016 and 2018 before the latter left for Elland Road in February this year.

Reflecting on their time together, the 25-year-old goalkeeper said that the Leeds head coach was fantastic with him and he has not got a single bad word to say about him.

The goalkeeper also took time to speak about the period in his career when he was not playing well, but thanked Heckingbottom for sticking with him and allowing him to come through it.

“Hecky was great with me; I’ve not got a bad word to say against him and what he did here was fantastic”, Davies told his club's official website.

“I can’t thank him enough – there were times when I wasn’t playing too well and he stuck with me, and I came through it."

Come Saturday though, Davies insists that he will try to do everything he can to make sure that he gets one over his former manager when Barnsley travel to Leeds.

"But, come Saturday, we’re not going to be pals and I’m going to try and get one over on him.”
