Jose Mourinho says that if Manchester United can win the FA Cup and finish second in the Premier League it would represent a good season, after the Red Devils booked a spot in the final by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley.

Dele Alli put Tottenham 1-0 up in just the eleventh minute when he slid in to connect with a low cross from Christian Eriksen.

But just 13 minutes later Manchester United were level when Alexis Sanchez got his head to a ball from Paul Pogba, beating Michel Vorm in the Tottenham goal.

Spurs had a good spell as the first half wore on and hit the post in stoppage time, as the teams went in level at the break.

Manchester United got their noses in front just after the hour mark when a low shot from Ander Herrera just inside the penalty area beat Vorm.

Tottenham were expected to hit back, but Manchester United managed to game to secure a 2-1 win and book their spot in the final against either Chelsea or Southampton.

And Mourinho, whose side continue to sit second in the Premier League behind Manchester City, thinks that his men will be able to look back on a good season if they can win the FA Cup.

The Portuguese told the BBC: "The players were all very good and when they are all good the team is solid and we can play against any team including Spurs, who are one of the top teams in Europe.

"It was a great achievement to beat them in their stadium.

"I had this morning one simple SMS from one of my bosses Ed Woodward – he was saying that 'I believe we are going to win but if we don't the season is a good season, a season where everyone is professional and everyone is bringing the club in the right direction'.

"That's my feeling too.

"We can close the season in a final and that's a good achievement.

"But we need to focus on our six points and we deserve to finish second and to do that behind a fantastic team is a good achievement."
