Former Leeds United star Andy Couzens is keen to see a few more youngsters given a chance to play for the first team in the local derby against Barnsley today.

Leeds are hurtling towards another season of mid-table mediocrity and performances and results since the turn of the year have sucked out all the positivity that was on display at the start of the campaign.

New head coach Paul Heckingbottom has struggled to arrest the slide and has admitted that he is looking at the summer to fix the squad, but Couzens has demanded a performance in the local derby against Barnsley today.

The former Leeds star says that local pride is at stake and a win will be important in bringing the feel-good factor back again to the club.

Couzens also believes some of the youngsters have done well since coming into the team and is prepared to see more academy hopefuls in the squad against Barnsley.

The former White told took to Twitter and wrote: “Local derby today, pride at stake and we need a performance and a result for a bit of feel-good factor.

“Going to be an interesting team selection as well.

"I would say the young lads have done well since [being] in the team, let’s see a few more.”

Leeds scored a 2-0 win over Barnsley when the two sides met earlier in the season at Oakwell, when Heckingbottom was in charge of the Tykes.
