Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has indicated that the club’s interest in signing Michy Batshuayi depends on Chelsea’s managerial situation in the summer.

Batshuayi joined Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in January and before suffering an ankle injury last weekend, which ended his season, the striker had become a popular figure because of his goals and positive demeanour.

Dortmund wanted to include a purchase option in the loan contract in January, but Chelsea refused to agree terms and BVB remain keen on signing Batshuayi in the summer on a permanent deal.

However, Watzke added that a potential move for Batshuayi largely depends on who will be Chelsea manager next season.

“The interest in signing him is there”, Watzke told Bild when asked about Batshuayi.

“Chelsea have two strikers in [Olivier] Giroud and [Alvaro] Morata anyway. But we will have to wait and watch who will be Chelsea’s coach next season.

“Then we’ll see.”

Antonio Conte has given the impression of not being a fan of Batshuayi and the Belgian received only rare opportunities to impress during his 18-month stay at Chelsea under the Italian.

However, Conte’s future is hanging in balance and he is largely expected to part ways with Chelsea at the end of the season.
