Former Hearts boss Robbie Neilson has tipped his hat to Rangers striker Jascon Cummings, who helped the Gers see off Craig Levein's team 2-1 at Ibrox.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty opted to leave Alfredo Morelos on the bench and give loan star Cummings the chance to start in the Scottish Premiership fixture at Ibrox.

The first half was a goalless affair, but Cummings quickly upped the ante in the second half by scoring within two minutes of the restart.

Rangers were then given an extra cushion when Daniel Candeias threw himself at the ball and powered in a header in the 64th minute.

Hearts pulled one back through Christophe Berra, who headed in from a free kick in the 71st minute, while Kyle Lafferty hit the post for the visitors.

But it was not enough for the visitors, who slipped to a 2-1 defeat which sees Rangers back up to second in the Premiership table.

For Neilson, Cummings repaid Murty's faith by finding the back of the net and enjoyed a productive afternoon.

"He’s done well, he’s got his goals. I think the three behind him supporting him has helped him create some space to get into the game", Neilson said on BBC Radio Scotland.

"Should have had a second goal there to kill it off and make this last four minutes for Rangers a lot easier, but he’s played his part today and got his goal, he’ll be quite happy."

Cummings is on loan at Rangers from Nottingham Forest and the Gers can keep him on a permanent basis for a set fee.
